At Sir James Douglas Elementary School, we believe every child deserves a place to play, make friends and feel included.
We’re embarking on an exciting project to build a new, accessible playground that will bring children of all ages and abilities together. And we need our community’s help to make it happen!
Our goal is to raise $250,000 to create a welcoming, inclusive play space that will benefit our students, neighbourhood families and the wider Fairfield-Gonzales community for years to come.

Why Do We Need a New Playground?
Our current playground has served generations of students, but its aging equipment and outdated design no longer meet today’s safety and accessibility standards. It also lacks inclusive features that allow children of all ages and abilities to fully participate in play.
While the current structures have a few more years of life left, we need to plan and resource for the eventuality of replacement.
A Playground for the Whole Community
Sir James Douglas Elementary is home to more than 400 students, but the benefits of this project will extend far beyond our school.
The playground will also serve families throughout our surrounding neighbourhood and the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association, whose programming supports hundreds of children each year.
By investing in this playground, we’re creating an inclusive gathering place for our entire community.

Building a new, accessible playground is a significant investment, and we can’t do it without the generosity of our community.
