This Saturday, May 7th the SJD Me to We Club is partnering with Bicycles for Humanity Victoria and hosting a Bike Drive at the Moss Street Market from 10am until 2pm.
Collected used bikes will help some of the world’s poorest people to access healthcare, go to school, collect water and food, and find jobs. In Malawi, Bikes for Humanity Victoria partners with a Canadian organization called Africycle who receives, rebuilds, and distributes the bikes. Local people staff and manage the Africycle bike shops and income they generate is used for community-driven projects such as orphan care and providing funding for children to go to school. Bikes are also provided to community organizations in need of transport helping create economic, health, and social opportunities for the people of Malawi.
Bicycles for Humanity Victoria collects complete adult mountain and hybrid bikes in fair to good used condition. They accept 26 inch wheel size, 27.5 inch wheel size and 29 inch wheel size.
B4H also collects road bikes such as 10 speeds or race bikes and trades them with local bike shops for mountain bikes.
Good quality complete youth mountain and hybrid bikes are also accepted. Please do not donate small children’s bikes, such as run bikes or pedal bikes for kids 8 years old and under.
Spare bike parts are also gratefully accepted. You can donate spare tires, tubes, wheels, pedals, brake parts, chains, shifters, and bike tools.
